Catching up with VOBs: Apex Target Systems

JonasProject
Jamie Chester has been working with The Jonas Project for about 13 months to launch his company, Apex Target Systems. We had a chance to catch up with Jamie and get the update on his milestones as he rapidly approaches the launch of his new target system named Phoenix. Jamie originally came up with the idea for his business from his own experience in the military. While training, he often practiced scenarios to improve his shooting ability, and those scenarios would need to be as life-like as possible. He wanted to create a better target system that would allow the...

Catching up with VOBs: Assemblers

JonasProject
We had a chance to catch up with Teague Savitch, founder of Assemblers. His business is really starting to grow so we sat down with him to talk about how it’s going. Teague recently got his LLC, which a BIG step for any new business. It helps protect and limit personal liability. The Jonas Project helped Teague in deciding which type of corporation would be best for his business and set him up with a CPA to work through all the details. Teague has been operating Assemblers at farmer’s markets three days a week for months now, and has built...

Catching up with VOBs: E9 Construction

JonasProject
Monica Vasquez, owner of E9 Construction in Fort Worth, Texas, and Jonas Project Veteran Owned Business, has been hustling this past year to get established in her region. And she’s had some huge successes along the way! We had a chance to catch up with her recently to talk about what’s been going on. In late 2015, Monica scored her first six-figure contract, and was recently able to hire her first full time construction workers, who had previously been contractors. That’s a HUGE step in any entrepreneur’s business, actually having employees! Monica has been working with her Jonas Project mentor,...

Mentor Series: What I learned

JonasProject
We talked with our head mentor at The Jonas Project, Elaine Mathews (also known as the Wrangler), about her experience as a mentor and what she’s learned. Here’s what she had to say… What I did not learn is that giving is a gift to the giver.  I always knew this.  However, working closely with TJP has reminded me that the size of this gift is immeasurable.  Volunteers don’t “give to get”.  We give to “give back”.  Unfortunately, just as nothing can equal the sacrifice many of our military men and women have made for us, nothing can equate to...

January Highlights

JonasProject
January has drawn to an end and the first month of the year has kept us incredibly busy revamping some of our programs, forging partnerships with organizations that will provide more resources for our VOBs and making some changes around the office! Our office space is generously donated by one of our mentors, and she has just put in more desks for us as we continue to grow! Late last year, we brought on a Web Master, Oscar Ira, to help with our own website, but more importantly, he will be building websites for our VOBs! This is a great...
